Community Connections

Part of Stanmer Organics, Hearts and Flowers has a one-acre site where we provide free activities
for local community groups and residents. Our aims are to strengthen people’s connections with
nature as well as improving the biodiversity of the land.

We run Supported Gardening sessions for people who have barriers to nature. We have worked
with people with learning disabilities, newly arrived refugees and many others.
Under our Roots to Resilience project, we offer days out when organisations can bring groups to
our site and have the chance to learn about organic flower growing. The sessions have included storytellers, felt making with nature dyes, flower pressing, making bee hotels, flower mandala making and much more. We are led by the seasons and integrate mindfulness into the activities.

We are focused on the wildflowers, fauna, and culture of the South Downs both past and present
and, thanks to a grant from the National Trust’s Changing Chalk programme, are helping to restore a rare Downland chalkland site.

All of our work is funded by grant making trusts and others donors
